About James Leyland-Willows

I’m James Leyland-Willows, a qualified Person-Centred counsellor and the founder of Acceptance is Key. I provide individual counselling in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, as well as online counselling across the UK.

Personal Motivation

About Me

My motivation as a counsellor comes from a genuine belief in offering a safe, accepting, and non-judgemental space where you can be truly yourself and explore your feelings at your own pace.

Acceptance is Key is the counselling practice founded by James Leyland-Willows. The name reflects my core belief that self-acceptance is the essential starting point for personal growth and inner peace.

Therapeutic Philosophy

My Approach to Counselling

I work primarily from a Person-Centred perspective, placing empathy, authenticity, and the therapeutic relationship at the core of our work.

Person-Centred Therapy

Mindfulness-Informed Support

Focusing on empathy, acceptance, and genuine human connection so you can explore your personal experiences without pressure.

Incorporating gentle breathing techniques, mindfulness, and meditation practices whenever these feel helpful to your grounding.

Client Support

Who I Work With

I work with adults experiencing a range of difficulties and life challenges, offering a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to explore what you're going through.

I can support you with issues including anxiety, stress, panic, low mood, low self-esteem, trauma, bereavement and relationship difficulties. You don't need to have everything figured out before coming to counselling. We can explore what is happening for you at your own pace, without judgement or pressure.

Everyone's experience is different, so our work together will be shaped around you and what you feel you need from counselling.

Emotional Well-being

Life & Relationship Support

Anxiety, stress, panic, low mood and difficulties with self-esteem can all have a significant impact on everyday life. Counselling can provide space to understand what you're experiencing and explore what may help.

I also work with people experiencing bereavement, trauma and difficulties within relationships, providing a space where these experiences can be explored at a pace that feels manageable for you.

My Professional Background

I’m a qualified Person-Centred counsellor and an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). My training includes CPCAB Levels 2, 3 and 4 in Therapeutic Counselling.

My approach is rooted in Person-Centred Therapy, placing the therapeutic relationship at the heart of our work together. I also have a mindfulness-informed approach and may incorporate practices such as breathing techniques, mindfulness and meditation where appropriate.
